The other night I received a robo-poll call from Rasmussen Reports. This is the first time I've been polled by Rasmussen, so I thought I would make note of the questions they asked. I attempted to write down all of the questions verbatim, but I'm sure there are some innaccuracies.
The poll started with some demographic questions, including my age, gender, party affiliation and voting history (Do you vote in every election? Most? Some?). They then asked my impression of George Bush, ranked from strongly favorable/to strongly unfavorable. When asked if I am Dem or Repub, I answered Repub, hoping to add weight to my negative impression of Bush.
From that point on many of the questions had to do with potential Repub candidates for the 2008 presidential election. To me, this was the most interesting part of the poll, as it gave me some insight into what the party muckety-mucks are thinking (or at least polling on). The poll might have a different set of questions for Dems vs. Repubs, because the wording of the questions seemed to assume that I would be voting in the Repub primaries. Join me beyond the break to see the rest of the questions.
From this point in the poll I started frantically writing, so here are the questions, as best I can remember them:
First I was asked "Rank the following potential 2008 Presidential candidates (from Strongly Favorable to Strongly Unfavorable)":
- Tom Vilsack
- Rudy Giuliani
- Mike Huckabee
- Robert Gates
Then, I was asked "If a Republican Primary were held today, who of the following would I vote for?":
- Mike Huckabee
- Mitt Romney
- Rudy Giuliani
- John McCain
- Chuck Hagel
- Newt Gingrich
- Sam Brownback
Then, I was asked for my second choice from the same list.
Next, I was asked for whom I would vote, if the lineup were:
- Vilsack vs. Huckabee
- Vilsack vs. Giuliani
Next, we got into my opinions.
Who is winning the War on Terror?
- The US and its allies
- The terrorists
Is the Situation in Iraq getting better, getting worse, or staying the same?
In the long run, will America's mission in Iraq be judged a failure, or a success?
How would you rate Bush's handling of the war in Iraq?
Is the US safer now than it was before 9/11/01?
Some say Social Security needs to be fixed, others say leave it alone. Do you think Social Security:
- Needs to be fixed
- Should be left alone
How likely are you to received the Social Security benefits that you have been promised?
- Very likely
- Somewhat likely
- Somewhat unlikely
- Very unlikely
Should Social Security taxes be raised to insure that the promised benefits are paid?
You can probably guess all of my answers, if you keep in mind I love it when the Republicans come across as right-wing wackos. Even in the rare case that they aren't.
