If you haven't read Maccabee's recommended diary, Bush Has No Idea How Much Trouble He Is In, take some time to do so. As I read the discussion there, and as I pondered the announcement I'd read in Yahoo News, Bush to announce Iraq plan in January, that Bush's prime-time, televised speech to the nation about the "new ideas" for conducting his war in Iraq has been postponed, an idea occurred to me. We can act before Christmas; we can demonstrate that we're not children waiting to be led by some paternalistic Great Pretender. We can strike for peace.
Below the fold, I'll re-state most of the comment I posted to Maccabee's diary.
There is something we can do to break through the "bubble" around the Chimp which was discussed yesterday on Countdown (check the transcript, Transcript of December 11 Countdown program, especially what Wayne Slater had to say): strike for peace.
So Bush and his handlers have decided to "manage" the midterm elections and the desire of most Americans to withdraw our sons and daughters from Bush's war in Iraq. So they're trying to co-opt Democratic members of Congress and make Bush's war a creature of both parties. So the Republick public relations machine is "playing" MSM for cover, pretending that Bush is open to "new ideas" about his fiasco. So, in aid of that, Bush's handlers have told him to postpone the previously-announced prime-time televised speech to the nation until the New Year.
There's a way we can bring home to them and to the rest of the country that WE, not Bush and his minions, are the "deciders": strike for peace.
Pick a day (I think we should show that it can be done before our great cultural holiday, Christmas, and therefore suggest Friday, December 22, as that day, but I'm open to suggestions from the rest of you), announce that people opposed to Bush's war will strike on that day, not working, not living life as usual, not conducting business as usual, but doing something like wearing blue and white (the United Nations colors, but also the colors of our flag without the bloody red) as we demonstrate.
People power. That's the way to get our message across. Strike for peace.
