Are we, or are we not a democracy?
Do we, or do we not have an opposition party in this country?
(more over the fold...)
We in the netroots did our part. We organized, raised money, gave money, burned up the phone lines and the tubes of the internets, and so much more. We and others rose up in defiance of what has been happening in our country. We rose up against the rightwing madness and the culture of corruption. And in near unanimity, we rose up against this shameful, wasteful, and horrific war. We arose in such overwhelming numbers that we even managed to overcome (though just barely) the nefarious cheating machine of the Republic Party.
We did our part. We put the Democrats in power.
Now it’s time for the Democrats to put up or shut up.
We demanded an end to the insanity in Iraq. What we got was escalation instead.
Remember the last King George and what happened when he sneered at our demand for no taxation without representation?
We kicked his ass, that’s what!
We Americans have a long tradition of defying tyranny. Has that tradition come to an inglorious end? Are we now a nation of frightened sheep who will take any amount of rotten, stinking, stomach churning abuse heaped on us from above? Are we going to stand for this crap?
Constitutionally, there’s nothing we can do.
~ Joe Biden
Well bullshit Joe! We can read the Constitution too. And as far as your ’08 Presidential run goes, save your money douchebag.
The Constitution provides a remedy for an out of control President. It’s called impeachment. It’s a remedy tailor-made for our present circumstances. This is a textbook case.
But he’s a lame duck. What can it hurt to leave him in power for another two years?
Tell it to the American youths who are being fed into the meat grinder. Tell it to the spouses, children, parents, sisters and brothers of those being sacrificed for King George’s ego.
And now they’re going to attack Iran? And just who in hell authorized THAT?
Are we just going to let this madman run amok in the world, leaving a trail of death, destruction and horror - all in the name of the people of the United States of America?
Oh but don’t impeach him. It might be bad for Democrats.
It wasn’t enough that the Republic Party stole two Presidential elections.
It wasn’t enough that he intentionally let Bin Laden get away.
It wasn’t enough that he lied to start a bogus and patently illegal war.
It wasn’t enough that he horribly mismanaged the war.
It wasn’t enough that he ordered helpless prisoners to be tortured.
It wasn’t enough that he caused the deaths of 3,000 Americans (and counting) and 650,000 Iraqis (and counting) for nothing.
It wasn’t enough that he turned the NSA on Americans and took away our civil rights.
It wasn’t enough that he abandoned the victims of Katrina.
It wasn’t enough that he and Cheney enriched their cronies in Iraq and the Gulf Coast.
It wasn’t enough that they ruined our reputation and alienated our allies.
It wasn’t enough that they perverted our form of government with signing statements and other cheap tricks.
It wasn’t enough that they bankrupted our nation.
It wasn’t enough when they ignored Global Warming and put all of humanity in dire jeopardy.
WHEN is it going to be enough?
A number of people took umbrage when in one of my earlier ‘impeachment porn’ diaries I said, if you’re for leaving Bush in office then I hope you’re prepared to accept your part of the responsibility for the harm he does over the next two years. I stand by that.
I hope that Bush’s potential for harm is coming into sharper focus for those who think we shouldn’t bother to impeach the bastard.
Now I don’t claim to be an expert on parliamentary procedure or constitutional law. I don’t know if he should be impeached, arrested and sent to The Hague, or simply dragged from the oval office and hung in the public square.
All I know is that he should be STOPPED!
Don’t talk to me about how we can’t do anything. Don’t talk to me about non-binding resolutions. Don’t talk to me about patience, forbearance, or lying down and rolling over for any reason whatsoever.
STOP the bastard!
That’s what we elected you for.
Now put up or shut up!
