Noam Cohen wrote a great story re: Spocko/KSFO. This story just got legs for another week.
But we need to refocus. Disney/ABC did an outstanding jujitsu dance that caused us to redirect our fire to KSFO and their insignificant radio show hosts. I mean, c'mon... If it isn't clear to you by now that Morgan, Rodgers, Sussman and Vic are paper tigers - disembodied idiot voices of the right that exist solely to further their corporate master's agenda... well, then I think you need to think a little more about what is going on...
WinSmith wrote a magnificent diary yesterday that got right to the point. these folks are cartoons... all of them are... Hannity, Limbaugh, O'Reilly... There isn't a serious person amongst them - they provide cheap entertainment to the easily persuadable that have outgrown their life's dreams and need to blame somebody (liberals) for their failure to achieve their own ideal of what life should be...
remember... the red states have the highest divorce rates. the highest teen pregnancy rates... the highest rates of poverty... the lowest rates of high school completion... the worst public university systems...
So you've got a middle-aged handyman, Joe, riding around in his truck when he sees his pregnant teen daughter skipping school with her drop-out boyfriend... he's still wondering why his wife left him and how he's gonna pay for lunch (let alone his next tank of gas)... at least there's Hannity, every day, to tell him it's Nancy Pelosi and her San Francisco friends that caused all his woe...
and that's just the way Disney/ABC likes it...
Because if Joe ever realized that his problems result from the sytematic looting of government - at all levels... well, he might want to upset the gravy train they have running...
seriously, from local, to state, to federal, there is just no interest amongst the people that Joe looks to for leadership in improving the socio-infrastructure required to support a healthy society. Instead, Joe supports people that end up living in gated communities and pointing their fingers at the uncivilized "Joes" living outside their cacoon of privilidge...
And who, praytell, spends their money travelling to Disney for two week vacations that cost $10,000 for a family of four? It ain't Joe...
Anyway, I've ranted a little. Maybe even incoherently at times. But it really bugs me that Disney - the omnipresent company for those of us with kids - is on the leading edge of the subversive right-wing propaganda campaign that characterizes so much of what we watch, read and hear. As an information company, they are downright dangerous to the ideal of a better society that we are collectively striving for. And they are doing it under one of the most innocent and beloved brand names in America...
My own mother told me to "Leave Disney alone!" when my wife told her what I was working on.
So... here's the next step.
I just purchased the domain "DisneyHatesYou.com". I'm building a bulletin board for people to upload photoshops, stories and videos of their bullshit experiences with Disney. From that central repository, I'm encouraging all of you to copy and paste. Copy the photoshops and stories from DisneyHatesYou.com and paste them into the other sites you visit.
Planning a vacation? Spending time at travel discussion sites? Shoot over to DisneyHatesYou and grab a story. Paste it into your comments and tell people why you won't visit Disney.
Are you a movie fan? Do you spend a lot of time at film discussion sites? Do you see a thread discussing Disney's latest and greatest summer animation? Go ahead and post a photoshop you found at DisneyHatesYou and explain why Disney won't be getting any of your money.
Investor? Sports fan? Collector? Our backgrounds and other interests are as varied as our usernames. DailyKos.com can be an incredibly effective node for coordinationan of an incredibly effective "internet graffiti" operation. It's time we focused our efforts in a way that accomplishes something. We need to recognize our strengths and our weaknesses. Individually, any one of us is an ant. Collectively, we move mountains.
I should have the board up within a week or so. Until then, start your photoshop engines. Collect your Disney stories. My goal for the first three days is 200 discreet posts.
Thanks for listening and I love you all. We're an incredible force and I'm proud as hell to be on your team.
