Recently there have been diaries regarding the possible resignation of Vice President Dick Cheney. While I doubt Cheney would ever resign, there is a possibility if he is part of a trade that would allow President Bush to not be impeached. A moderate Republican would have to be nominated. I have, in the past, proposed that if Cheney were to resign closer to the next election, a "message" Vice President could be nominated by Bush and that Vice President would then be the "sitting" Vice Presidential nominee for McCain or Guiliani. I proposed the possibility of either of the two women Senators from Maine. Now this today:

Snowe is not up for reelection in 2008 but Collins is vulnerable. Representative Tom Allen could unseat her.
Imagine if Senator Clinton's campaign fails. How much traction would a woman on the Republican ticket be worth?
Would this force the Democrats to nominate a woman (Sebelius?) for Vice President?
