OK: even before they decied to go into debate, I've heard two Republicans accuse Democrats who support the resolution to disagree with President Bush of "staying the course."
Another Republican called Democrats the "UNDemocratic Party."
Are you kidding me?
This is an open thread for the debate.
Every house member gets 5 minutes.
I'm not going to be here all day, so I'm asking fellow kossacks to chime in as much as possible.
Oh, and I'm not even close to knowing every Congressperson. There's only two times I've ever memorized such a large group: the Congress members during Clinton's impeachment and the NBA 2002 roster. So forgive me if I mispell a name here and there.
Text of Resolution is here. CNN has a story here.
Have Fun!
UPDATE (10:11amEST): Right now, Reps are using a minute each to voice their personal concerns. I'll let you know if anyone says anything about the resolution.
UPDATE PART DEUX (10:24amEST) The resolution is being read. Buckle up, 'cause the House has traditionally had more...interesting personalities when compared to the Senate.
UPDATE PART TRES (11:39AM EST): There is a motion to "suspend the rules and agree." This motion is about the "WWII Immigrant Group's Rights," which doesn't sound like it's related to the Iraq vote...hmmm. Link to C-SPAN can be found here. So far, it's been "stats and facts" vs crocodile tears. I'll let you guess which party is doing what.
YET ANOTHER UPDATE (12:17PM EST): C-SPAN switched to press-secretary impersonator Tony Snow. This goober sounds like he just woke up and walked to the press conference. Back at the House: five minute recorded vote for rules on debating the resolution.
PELOSI UPDATE (12:41PM EST): As in, "Speaker Pelosi gets up to rock the mic." She's laying down the groundwork about what this vote is about, and isn't afriad to take a swing at Bushco in the process.
