President Bush's chief propagandist, Tony Snowjob, has been giving a briefing at the White House, primarily addressing the administration's allegations that Iran is supplying explosively formed penetrators (EFP's) to forces attacking Americans in Iraq. The link is here. To say that Snow is completely full of shit is damning with faint praise. Details below.
The press, doing its job for a change, challenges Snow on the recent Statment by General Pace that there is no evidence to show that the Iranian government itself has authorized or is behind the EFP's getting into Iraq.
Snow, in his inimitable obfuscatory style, claims that this is merely a "semantic dispute," that in fact the evidence, which he refuses to discuss, shows that the weapons come from units of the Iranian Republican Guard, and that this is "part of the Iranian government."
To put it plainly, bullshit. Snow reluctantly admits that there is ZERO evidence to show that any Iranian government official has authorized sending weapons to Iraq or even has knowledge of this happening. But his spin is to try to claim that if the weapons belong to the Iranian military, then "senior Iranian officials" must know about it.
In other words, the reason no one was willing to go on the record on this so-called "evidence" is that it does not exist. It's another case of Nigerian yellow cake, broght to you by the spinmeisters a la Doug Feith who make this crap up as they go along.
Snow claims that "no one disputes" that the weapons are Iranian and come from Iran. Again, bullshit. The pictures are of English-lettered rounds with American dating convention dates on them. There are very serious questions about the weapons' provenance. When pressed for details on how the administration claims to "know" these are Iranian imports, Snow defaults to the always easy claim of "sorry, that's classified." He refuses to discuss sources or reliability. How convenient.
Remember that the Iraq war was sold to us based on now-debunked false intel from so-called Iraqi insiders, like Ahmed Khalabi, who were later found to be completely full of shit. Anyone think these new mystery sources are any more reliable?
We have to keep the pressure on the press and the Congress to question every piece of the Bushco case for war against Iran before the bombing begins. If we can debunk the BS this time before the bombs start to fall, maybe we can prevent another tragic American mistake in the Middle East.
