Colorado Confidential was notified today by the Colorado Society of Professional Journalists that it will be recognized with 2006 Mark of Excellence awards at its annual banquet on March 30, 2007 in Denver.
At a time when serious journalism is on the decline, and people are experimenting with new forms of news online, it's tremendously gratifying to see the model we're pioneering in Colorado recognized by SPJ Colorado, the state's leading association of journalists.
We are humbled by the reception of our statewide peers in acknowledging the impact of online journalism since our official launch on July 11, 2006 and welcome the opportunity to celebrate the First Amendment with our fellow journalists throughout Colorado. Our first story on launch day broke the news that a Colorado GOP fundraiser featuring Ann Coulter raised no money. We haven't looked back since.
Colorado Confidential entered work in several categories, including online breaking news story, website excellence, blogging, online interactive story, feature story, and photo story, for news outlets with circulations of 10,000 - 75,000. Winning stories will be announced at the March event.
Since our inception last summer as the state's first online political news daily featuring original and investigative reporting, Colorado Confidential is rapidly approaching 1.3 million total page views.
