As members of Congress return home for the Presidents' Day recess, people across the country are launching a Week of Action to push for passage of the Employee Free Choice Act.
Union members will be holding news conferences, worker roundtables, rallies and other events around the country to highlight to need for labor law reform mush members of Congress to act on this important bill and to thank those who have already shown their support for it.
The events will be occuring in nearly 100 cities where workers will let their lawmakers and the public know about the broken system of union elections in this country.
This broken system currently denies workers their freedom to join unions and bargain for better wages, benefits and working conditions.
One of the first actions is being held in Charleston, West Virginia where workers from across the state gathered to voice support for a resolution adopted by the state House of Delegates calling on Congress to pass the Employee Free Choice Act.
60 million Americans have said they would vote to join or form a union at work today if they could. Unfortunately, the current process is controlled by employer-sided provisions where workers can be fired, harassed, threatened and coerced with little to no penalties for employers who do so.
The Employee Free Choice Act will give millions of working people an opportunity to have a better life, one which is becoming harder and harder with the current state of economy.
