Congress needs our help, badly. As has been noted, the political will in Congress to end the war may becollapsing, and Democrats seem to be having a hard time understanding that a majority of Americans are ready to stand with them if only they would stand.
Our representatives in government are in danger of making a big mistake, and we shouldn't shirk our duty as citizens to help them out. I think our Congressmen and Senators need reminding as to why they were elected. So let's, um, remind them.
I don't know exactly what's happening on the Hill. I am not sure why Republicans are so nunited in obstructing the will of the people, or why the Democrats are so reluctant to do what the American people elected them to do: end this war and bring the troops home.
Perhaps Republicans are still afraid, at this late time, of defying the administration to whom they've delegated all authority. I suspect that the Democrats are afraid of being branded anti-military, and accused of stranding the troops in Iraq by cutting off funds.
They should all get over it, and remember: failing to do what's right is that same as doing wrong. Perhaps they don't know that, or can't yet appreciate the slow-burning anger we might feel as we watch them run away from their duties. They might need our help to understand that.
So, how can we help them? Let's call them. The US Capitol Main Switchboard number is 202-224-3121. Call and ask for your Senators and House Representatives. Please call them today, and help them understand that we want action, not obstructionism or political theatre, and that we can tell the difference.
