Or is it just so much more b.s.
Living in a Republican backwater, it is sometimes difficult to tell if this means anything but....
On page 3, in the World/Nation section of the Feb. 27 edition of the Spokesman Review in Spokane, WA, was an article titled "Iraq Cabinet passes draft oil legislation". In a darkened inset -"related news- McMorris Rodgers sees time limit".
The Iraqi government has limited time-probably no more than a year-to get its country stabilized or the United States will have to consider a new strategy, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers said Monday.
Is she the red red robin... a harbinger of conservatives’movement?

I'm not sure what to make of the placement of this bit of info, other than it seems a bit odd (or,considering her connections, it was exactly where it belonged). As an example of how great our paper is, the Spokesman Review finally put the story about the veterans at Walter Reed at the very bottom corner of the front page on Saturday Feb 24th. Timely news? We wouldn't want that. Not to digress. The ‘time limit story", from an interview with the paper’s editorial board the previous day, continues:
...she is supporting...Bush’s plan for extra troops as a recognition of "the reality of where we are."
Voting with her leadership in support of the "surge" (of course)...
...which she described as the best way "to pursue victory in Iraq"
"I recognize the situation has deteriorated," she said. "I do believe we have a limited time frame (for success). We need to get Iraq stabilized in the next six months or a year or we have to consider a different course of action."
McMorris Rodgers refused later to say whether that course would include her support for removing some or all American troops if conditions in Iraq don’t improve by next year. "I’ll take that one day at a time," she said.
Demonstrating how well she follows "the reality of where we are" she said:
...she was shocked at Britain’s announcement that it would withdraw troops from Iraq and concerned that Italy might do the same. Even if the White House isn’t willing to change direction on its Iraq strategy by next year, the pressure in Congress to change "will be a political reality" unless conditions improve, she said.
McMorris Rodgers is a wonderful example of a "young" Reagan conservative. She has an MBA she earned at night school. She believes in the rapture. She votes with her leadership every gosh darn time she gets a chance to. She’s newly married to a former Air Force pilot (this helps with an illusion of being of the military, though I must note, neither her father or brother have ever served in the military) and she is expecting her first child, a boy, this spring. She likes free trade and voted against the minimum wage, of course. As one of Tom Delay’s assistant whips, when the time came to support someone new, her office told me she thought Boehner was just wonderful. She finds him very impressive. And she is now the new co-chair of the women’s caucus.
So I don’t know if this means anything other than she is just trying to keep her never-commit-to-anything-but-be-prepared-so-you-can-shift-at-a-moments-notice position. But I do know that she doesn’t voice an opinion that is her own ever.
