Good Morning Kiddos! I hope this bootleg edition of Cheers and Jeers finds you all well, and, well, I hope it finds you. Or you find it, as the case may be. We've got grayish skies here, with patches of dirty snow, accompanied by a lovely shade of golden-brown dried-out grasses. And rain. So, it must be March Frist First!!
Ah, March... That murky miserable month where winter remains, yet spring seems to be on the tip of one's tongue, in the breeze in one's hair... Such imaginings may begin to fill our collective heads: the sight of the budding bulbs of the tulip and crocus and daffodil variety; the sounds of birds chirping, children playing, streams babbling; the feel of the warm sun on one's face, a spring wind in the air; the scent of greenery growing and old soggy dog poo forgotten beneath the winter snow; the anticipation and hope of growth, re-birth, vitality, life, begininngs, sunshine, truths, color, newness, joy, innocence... And then, Mother Nature, in all Her unbridled glory, will slam us with winds and snows and rains and muck, just one more time, for good measure.
Cheers and Jeers starts below... [Gong!][Ding-a-ling-a-ling!][Whoosh!][Cough!][Gack!][Ack!][Ahem...]

Cheers and Jeers for Thursday, March 1, 2007
Oh, let's see if I learned to use the table feature here properly. Here's your puppy and pootie pic for today:

OK, that was easy. The eyes have it.
A Number:
Days Until Daylight Savings Time: 10* (Thank Goddess.)
*Hat tip to Polisigh for this link from her Tuesday's C & J, where we find that a new federal law goes into effect this year:
In Aug. 2005, Congress passed an energy bill that included extending Daylight Saving Time by about a month. Beginning in 2007, DST will start the second Sunday of March and end on the first Sunday of November.
Who knew? Not I.
Cheers to "Rabbit, Rabbit" upon waking, or "Tibbar, Tibbar" before retiring, this March 1st. Although I didn't remember the first, and I'll bet I won't remember the latter.
Cheers to Ava Lowery, the 16-year old peace activist who creates antiwar videos and posts them on her website, Peace Takes Courage. The magazine,Mother Jones, has an article about Ava in the March/April 2007 magazine. It's not online yet, but it will be. Bonus Cheers to a nice centerfold in that issue also... It's an illustration showing media mergers over the past 25 years.
Jeers, with Laughter to Conservapedia. They are claiming to be...
a much needed alternative to Wikipedia, which is increasingly anti-Christian and anti-American. Conservapedia is an online resource and meeting place where we favor Christianity and America. ...You will much prefer using Conservapedia compared to Wikipedia if you want concise answers free of "political correctness".
Contributions that comply with simple commandments are respected (and improved) to the maximum extent possible.
Here's what Wikipedia has to say about Conservapedia and one of the organizations that uses it. Yeah, good luck with all that.
Cheers to retired Sgt. Eric Alva, who was the first soldier injured (he lost his right leg) in the Iraq War. He is supporting a bill to repeal the military's 'Don't ask, don't tell' policy. As he says,
"...I mean, you're asking men and women to lie about their orientation, to keep their personal lives private, so they can defend the rights and freedoms of others in this country, and be told, "Well, oh, yeah, if you ever decide to really meet someone of the same sex and you want the same rights, sorry, buddy, you don't have the right."
Jeers to Disney's Fairy Tale Wedding collection. Disney is creating a wedding gown collection for brides, with gowns ranging from $1,100. to $2,900. They are claiming to be "modernizing the princess concept". Oy. I've got my own princess concept, and it has nothing to do with Disney. It has to do with the GODDESS, thank you very much. What's next? Disney purity rings?
Jeers to this administration and its penchant for war. Boo. Big BOO.
Jeers to 8,000 gallons of a toxic solvent that spilled into the Ohio River.
Cheers to the The Cartoon Network, which shows reruns of The Family Guy at 11:30pm EST each night during AdultSwim (and right after The Daily Show). Here's a bit from episode 43 in season 3, which was on the other night.
Peter: What kind of talk is that? It's un-American!
Did George W. Bush quit even after losing the popular vote? NO!
Did he quit after losing millions of his father's friend's money in failed oil companies? NO!
Did he quit after knocking that girl up? NO!
Did he quit after he got that DUI? NO!
Did he quit after gettin' arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct at a football game? NO!
Did he quit-
Joe: I get the message, Peter.
Cheers to Coffee. Coffee, coffee, coffee. I've been drinking more coffee lately. Again. Tea in the evenings, coffee in the day. Every now and again some coffee at night. Oh, and Red Bull. I like the way it tastes. It reminds me of cherry-flavored tootsie rolls, although there's still something missing from that description, in my warped mind.
Happy Thursday kids! Be well, be safe, freeflow, have fun, and tell the ones you love just that. Hugs and smooches! :)
And remember, before you enter the kiddie pool, please rinse off, shake off, and...
Floor's open! What are you Cheering and Jeering about?
