That is the title of a link to an article on Slate written about presidential candidates and comparing them to serial killers. The article's title is a bit less inflammatory, but this is the way they're advertising this story on the Washington Post webpage. I guess it really just got to me because I figured comparing presidential candidates to serial killers was considered in bad taste. Obviously I was wrong:
"But are spree killers and candidates really so easy to tell apart? An obsession with publicity and getting even are only the most obvious thing Rudy Giuliani and Son of Sam have in common. Newt Gingrich and Washington sniper John Allen Muhammed are both charismatic leaders, quick to anger, and a bit paranoid. John Kerry and the Unabomber are both loners—though with different-sized cabins out West. And of course, both politician and killer tend to be credit hogs. Al Gore claimed he invented the Internet; the Zodiac killer, subject of a new movie, took credit for murders he probably didn't even commit."
Really. Somebody wrote this whole article.
Is it just me or is this beyond silliness? The whole thrust of the article, it seems, is to have a attention-grabbing link that likens Barack Obama to a serial killer. That's just not appropriate. The article is, first of all, not only about Barack. It mentions candidates from both sides (though it gives most treatment to Barack and Hillary). I just don't understand why it was presented that way unless it was to try and make an ugly comparison. I also wonder who came up with that teaser title--it's misleading and offensive.
So I don't know who to write in this case: should it go to Slate, who runs the ad on WashingtonPost.com, or should it be WaPo? Should it be both? I don't mean to sound petty, but this seems like the kind of thing we should be doing our best to stop. If for no other reason, there are more important things to discuss about the candidates than trying to shoehorn a comparison to serial killers. The only psychopathic murderers posing as politicians in this country are ALREADY in the White House.
