There's going to be a mad scramble to replace Ga. Rep. Charlie Norwood, who died earlier this year. Wikipedia has a pretty good rundown of candidates. One of the candidates is Jim Whitehead, and he sent the voters in the 10th a form announcement of his candidacy a few weeks ago. I was puzzled, since there was no mention of party affiliation in Whitehead's mailer, so I wrote him. My note follows:
Dear Mr. Whitehead,
I noted that your mailer I recieved today fails to mention whether you
are a Democrat or a Republican. I then went to your website and found
that you again failed to declare whether you are a Democrat or a
Republican. Why is that?
Given Republicans' track record of stupidity, corruption and
incompetence, I make it a point not to vote for them. It will take this
country many years to recover from the administration we now have in
power. I hope you will tell me that you are not a Republican, so that I
can consider voting for you.
Thank you.

So far there has been no response to my note. I suspect that this is a preview of a tactic we can expect many Republicans to try in '08 as they try to distance themselves from the rotten Bush years. We should call them on it!
