I'm tired of hearing it more than i'm tired of listening to Jesse Jackson's incoherent slurring and Al Sharpton's feigned "immense" out-rage.
I don't believe any kind of speech ought to be censored, hateful or nice. Speech is speech, and it should be protected, no matter how vulgar and depraved it is that you say. You should be able to say it. If I want to refer to woman as Nappy Headed Hoes, I ought to be able to express that - although I wouldn't, as I find it crass, mean, and ultimately wrong. But i'll "defend to the death" any persons right to say it, agreed to or not. I just don't believe we should be asking people to go away because we don't agree with what they are saying.
I agree with what Bill Maher said about this: If Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton who i'm friends with, both of them, I like them both very much, they've both done some great things, but to make this go on day after day week after week, if this is the biggest problem they have then the civil rights movement is in a lot better shape than I thought it was.
I say feigned "immense" because I believe he was offended, but that his excessiveness post-apology is all about grabbing attention for himself and his idiotic perspective on race relations in this country. I am sick and tired of censorship, and that's what they are calling for. They are calling for him to be pulled off the air because they don't like what he said. The simple fact is a lot of people are going to stop listening to Don Imus because of his admittedly stupid and insensitive remarks... and that should be all there is to it! You have the ability to shut Don Imus off from yourself, you don't have to listen to him - you can turn that dial, hell you can even turn the radio OFF.
How many more times does he have to offer apologies before we open our eyes to the hypocrisy of those who refuse to accept them? For those who vindictively call for the destruction of his entire career and livelihood, for all that he is to be shunned - whose satisfaction apparently will not be realized until he has been utterly bludgeoned to death, and call themselves Reverends.
The Reverends should be ashamed of themselves for their inability to live by the cornerstone of Christian dogma - forgiveness. Instead they continue to kick and to punch and to bite and to pull the hair of this man while he's down in an attempt to cripple him, so that he may not be able to continue to speak - effectively bringing on the same sort of censorship, albeit from a different direction (from the left, unfortunately), that saw the demise of other shows like Bill Maher's Politically Incorrect... canceled, because they talked about things that were politically incorrect!
And besides, this is another example of the corporate media's disinterest in reporting the news over entertainment. We have a problem when the 20th Don Imus apology, 4 days after his idiotic statement, is still the lead over the chaos in Iraq, the poverty at home and abroad, border security, deteriorating educational systems, and the many other things that we as American Citizens ought to know about, but don't, because of the serious degradation in quality of our media.
So we've all heard what Imus said, now let's move on - personally, I'll most likely listen to Imus again because I don't think he's a racist, just an insensitive god damn prick... and dammit, that's why he's so entertaining to listen to in the first place. A comedian that sometimes goes over the line, as all comedians do... it's just that they all don't have to be on the air for hours a day, every day, so he has many many more chances to screw up. Let's just forgive the prick and move on, and if not, change the fucking station.
