Powell's former Chief of Staff, Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, helped put together Powell's famous presentation at the UN in February 2003, just weeks before the war.
Wilkerson has come forward a number of times, and this time, he's put Impeachment investigations on the table. On CNN this weekend, Brian Todd introduces the story to Wolf by saying that "Wolf, this is the first Republican official, the first former member of the Bush Administration to publicly discuss the idea of Impeachment. Just as significant, this man was closely involved in much of the diplomatic maneuvering before the war"
Will this finally put Impeachment on the table? If this does not, what will? Will this high-level insider in the Bush administration get ingored by Congress, just like all the other whistle blowers do? It's up to you!
Video, and more, below.
Col. Wilkerson is no stranger to many of us. For some background, if you like, see this Crooks and Liars post. Now Wilkerson thinks Congress should DO something about the situation. That something is an IMPEACHMENT INVESTIGATION.
CNN reports Wilkerson saying that
There is a building body of evidence that this leadership team - principally Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney, but the President, who ultimately bears responsibility, too - have done thigns that would make a reasonable, seperate and equal body of government consider Impeachment.
Wilkerson is not calling for Impeachment outright, but says that an investigation needs to be done. Asked where he would begin his investigation, Wilkerson reponds
I would start my investigation into the detainee abuse issue, which constitutes, I think, a defilement of everything America stands for, and has done irreparable damage to our reputation, and thus to our power around the world. If that doesn't rate a 'high crime' definition, I don't know what does.
And I would also look closely at how we got into this war, particularly the cooking of the books in intelligence.
Are you listening, Nancy Pelosi? Are you listening, Mr. Waxman? Did you see this, Mr. Conyers? A high level Republican from the Bush administation, who was involved in the lead up to war, is calling for an Impeachment investigation. You can now officially stamp the Impeachment movement with "Bipartisan".
Call the House switchboard at 202-225-3121. You can reach the office of any representative. Call Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Call Henry Waxman (House Oversight Committee). Call John Conyers (House Judiciary Committee). Call YOUR representative, regardless of party affiliation.
Call the Senate switchboard at 202-224-3121. You can reach the office of any Senator. Call both your Senators, regardless of party affiliation.
Also, there is a toll-free number for the DC Switchboard: 1-800-828-0498 (thanks for the tip, Alegre)
In my opinion, everybody should have these 3 phone numbers above programmed into their phone. It makes calling the House and Senate as easy as can be!
Call your Representatives and Senators. Tell them they need to get the investigations going, ASAP. 100% of Americans were lied into war. When will the House and Senate start to represent the 100% of Americans, tax payers, voters and soldiers who were lied into war? Now is as good a time as any.
We don't have the votes to Impeach and Convict? We get the votes by DOING THE INVESTIGATION.
