The headline reads "Strong Voter Turnout" in this Republican county.
Google Maps says that the distance between the post office where my absentee ballot was mailed from, to the voter bureau where it was mailed to, is 4 miles, driven in 8 minutes. Typical delivery time is 1 day, 2 at the most. It took FOUR days for my request to reach the bureau, enough for me to miss the deadline.
So this Democarat cannot vote in this cycle.
According to the county’s election office, there is suppose to be a ballot initiative also. They could not tell me the topic, much less provide the exact wording of the initiative. Crude analysis is that school boards can pits taxes of homeowners who can get real estate tax exemptions against personal taxes.
Once upon a time, one could get a sample ballot mailed to you from our county seat. Now, you have to arrive in person to fill out a form and then they will mail to you the information. If you are there in person to fill out the form, I do not know why you can not just pick it the sample ballot. Why you can not just call in your request is a mystery.
Once upon a time, the county used optical scan ballots. They still do, but only when the paperless touch screens "malfunction." Proving whythe touch screen are better that then paper optical scan has never been a priority.
The candidates are not listed on the web. Even the county’s Democratic website says that the slate of candidates is "coming soon." It does however list the imporatant elections dates. For 2006!
The local newspaper lists them, but it is not user-friendly, and came after the date I tried to start my research.
Why does it matter? Well, for one there is this story in a neighboring district
