China the Model of Wealth Without Liberty by James Mann
My opinion, this article is a must read.
While the US has vested all of its attention to the Middle East, while the Free Marketeers proclaim the beauty of unregulated capitalism to bring democracy to the world, while we were bringing bullets and bullying to Baghdad and our ex-allies, while folks here in the US, can't say support the troops enough times as the focus of all things patriotic, China has emerged as the fire breathing dragon in the closet, a force to be reckoned with, and the keepers of the US economic stability.
Our financial security rests on China, the country of one party rule. The values of liberty are not inherently tied to economic success, and China and its one party rule has shown us the way. You buy off the elite with special priveleges, and you stifle organized opposition and you control the flow of information.
The failure of US foreign policy, and our continued prolific search for profits and investment could very well be the undoing of what was once the great beacon of liberal democracy, the United States of America.
I would like to say, that this once again shows that pure investment without regard to moral principles is most unwise. The free market guru's were sure that Iraq would be liberated by corporate pixie dust, the theory that free markets create free people. The free market guru's worship at the feet of the great China's unfettered capitalism under one party rule. They forgot that China is not a beacon of liberty, but a model of surpression and one party rule. IN the lust for economic gain free of US laws, the free marketeers have created a monster. China has come out of the closet and everywhere the US goes around the world, it seems that China has already been there first.
Unrestrained capitalism with no guiding moral compass that economists have worshipped as their own personal god to creating wealth and freedom turns out to be playing second fiddle to Communists China's one party rule.
This quote from Der Speigel should be a wake up call for all of us who live liberty, freedom, unpolluted horizons, and clear crystal blue fresh mountain streams.
when it comes to foreign businesses, the Chinese system has been so good at attracting outside investment and fueling economic growth that the German magazine Der Spiegel recently asked, "Does Communism Work After All?"
Why did this happen? Well the moral values crowd seems to have forgotten one of the greatest sins, gluttony.
Again this article should be required reading for all political junkies. It is a wake up call.
