I was a guest at the convention yesterday, and this is how I saw it.
Last-minute efforts put these questions before the delegates to the Massachusetts Democratic Party's annual convention in Amherst yesterday, and both passed overwhelmingly on voice votes (the impeachment resolution was nearly unanimous). Regarding #2, HR 1234 was introduced by Dennis Kucinich and calls for complete withdrawal of troops within 3 months or enactment. Below is the actual wording from each measure.
- The voters of the Massachusetts Democratic Convention call upon the Massachusetts delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives to investigate these charges and if the investigation supports the charges, vote to impeach George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney as provided in the Constitution of the United States of America.
- The Massachusetts Democratic Party urges its Senators and Congressmen in Washington to support vigorously the enactment as soon as possible of HR 1234 and to emphasize in so doing the utter immorality of allowing US troops and innocent Iraqis to die and be maimed in a war that is harming rather than enhancing US national security and honor.
