I know, I know, "what liberal media" and all that, but still, this makes me retch...
I have almost fully tuned out all cable and network news over the past two years. I loved CNN during the Ted Turner days, but as we all know, it's a completely different creature now.
Just now, I was watching Paula Zahn's show. The odious Kyra Phillips is filling in. First I see a segment about how Hillary "flip-flopped" (come on, can't they even think of new digs to use against Democrats?) on the Iraq war.
Next came a segment (which may still be running, even after 7 minutes; I had to leave the room) regarding three new books about Hillary coming out soon (I won't link to them). Kyra giddily points out that these books are "by respected journalists" and leave a definite "whiff of scandal in the air".
Please note: I am undecided about the 2008 nomination, and I wouldn't call myself a rabid Hillary fan. But we can expect much, much more of this kind of crap targeted at Hillary, Obama, Edwards, and anyone else who is seen as a threat.
Follow me below the flip for more...
The panel discussion that follows features one hapless, unknown guy who used to work in some unspecified position in the Clinton administration, and two Republican strategist women (one was a Carol Castello, or something like that).
Kyra begins by asking the Clinton administration guy whether accusations she quotes from one of the books are true - something about how Hillary "skirted the edge of the truth"; how Bill wanted to divorce her in 1989 because he was in love with another woman; and another piece of garbage I can't remember. The panelist ineptly offered a "defense" of Hillary, while Kyra (the PROFESSIONAL JOURNALIST, remember) and the other two Republican ladies tittered offscreen, throwing in a few "oh, come on"s and such.
Having given the token Hillary guy about 20 seconds, Kyra then gives full voice to the Republican attack dogs. They take turns throwing barbs at Hillary, with the main theme being her alleged two-facedness (on stay-at-home moms; on the Iraq war; on supporting her philandering husband; etc., along with the repeated dredging of Whitewater from the memory hole). The male panelist manages to squeeze in a few words about how Hillary is being held to a higher standard because she is a woman - her determination and ambition would not be taken apart like this if she were a man. The Republican bobbleheads simply laugh at him.
Kyra piles on, mentioning that Hillary didn't even read the NIE on Iraq before her war vote, and helpfully wonders aloud "whether we want a president who doesn't even do her homework" (I'll pause for a few seconds to let the irony sink in).
At this point I had to walk away - I've got my mental health to preserve! I won't hold my breath for Kyra to cover one single allegation in any book that has ever come out about her beloved Commander Guy. What's the matter Kyra, you couldn't get a job at FOX?
