I know this was diaried last week, but it hit the NYT today. Lead in the paint of Thomas the Tank Engine Toys painted in China.
Usually things do not affect me so much, but Thomas the Tank Engine is my sons favorite toy of the last 4 years. When he was 4, he went out at Halloween as Thomas in a costume we made for him, when he put it on he cried out "Thomas! Thomas! Thomas!" and had the biggest smile I have every seen, ear to ear. Even though he is 5, and in kindergarten now, (we keep his love for Thomas a little closer to the vest), he loves his red James and James' "tendert" and I cannot really remember when we bought it, before January 2005? After? DO I have to have him tested for lead now?
I have been doing very well, very zen of me make peace in my life, in my own heart all that - and now I think all over again, what the fuck is wrong with this godamned country - that nothing works right anymore?
From the article:
"In the last two years, the staff of the consumer product commission has been cut by more than 10 percent, leaving fewer regulators to monitor the safety of the growing flood of imports."
So I am ranting - It is the whole fucking thing, red state, nascar. bush...
