[UPDATE: the recent great work by the Congressional Dems, especially Pat Leahy, John Conyers and Harry Reid, shows how unfair this diary was to them. I hereby recant it (although I still say impeach now!)]
So, I used to be an impeachment nut, what with all the high crimes and misdemeanors and stuff, but Nancy P. has convinced me of the wisdom of the "do nothing and hope to elect Democrats in 2008" strategy. I mean, after all, we don't have the votes to impeach. And it would distract us from doing the important business at hand (whatever that is). And it would be unseemly. And Fox News would say nasty things about us. And it would look like revenge for Clinton. And Nancy can't appear to be trying to make herself President. And so on and so on.
Anyway, I have become a realio/trulio/coolio who accepts that the appearance of craven impotence is indeed a clever political strategy that will WOW the electorate and result in a landslide for the Dems in 2008. Then we can fix everything. I mean, what are the chances Bush and Cheney could do any real damage in 18 months? It's not like they might nuke Iran or something.
So in the spirit of Nancy and Harry, emboldened by their courageous leadership, I offer the following suggested Democratic campaign slogans for 2008. I think they reflect the true spirit of the national party. After all, framing is everything.
Please vote for your favorite slogan, or even better, add your own suggestion in the comments.
(Caveat: I suspect some of you may think this is unduly harsh on the Democratic leadership, and maybe it is. But it accurately reflects the incredible frustration many of us feel with the Dems' current lack of action to reign in the criminal Bush regime. So get over it.)
