If I could apologize for the State of Texas for giving you George W. Bush, Alberto Gonzales, and their lead cheerleader, Senator John Cornyn, I would. Twice. But I can't.
Under the popularity of George Bush the state of Texas has been under Republican leadership for 10 years. It is also by far one of the worst states to raise a family. And under W's leadership and the lack of over sight by the Republican Congress, the United States has lost it's once glorious luster around the world.
Texas has a lot to make amends for, so if you have the opportunity to attend the Yearly KOS event, take some time to meet our candidate for United States Senator, Rick Noriega. It has been a long time since we have had a candidate that is as popular as Rick, and who has the intelligence, personality, and commitment to lead as our Senator.
Rick doesn't have the complete package, he IS the complete package. He is a well respected State Representative, serving for over 10 years. He is a veteran, serving 14 months in Afghanistan, joining the Army as a paratrooper in the early 80s'. He commanded the massive relief efforts in Houston for the tens of thousands of Katrina victims. He commanded National Guard troops on the border for immigration enforcement.
He has been a leader in his community and his wife, Melissa, is now a Houston City Council Member. He and his family have grown answering the call to serve. And now he is answering the call to serve his country once again.
When you meet Rick you will have the feeling that he is already a Senator. He looks like one, talks like one, carries himself like one, but is down home enough to not only join you for a beer at the bar, he would buy you the beer at the bar.
Texas will be working hard for Rick and to make amends for giving the world the likes of George W. Bush. Help us elect Rick by making an effort to meet him at Yearly Kos. And write about him.
NOTE:
Rick will be at a ceremony in San Antonio, Texas on Aug 4 to be installed as Battalion Commander of the 1st Battalion 141st Infantry Regiment at a ceremony on Aug 4 in front of The Alamo. The 1st Battalion is a National Guard unit with approximately 500 soldiers. But he will be attending YKos also. While waiting, meet Martha Griffin, Melissa Noriega's successful campaign manager, and one of Texas best grassroots activist, Glen Maxey.
