Let me be the first to post a diary on this topic. Tonight, on this crisp February, 2008 evening, the spineless, fucking Democrats capitulated to Mr. 18% in the White House.
Again.
Do you remember how livid you were last August? Do you remember how the joy of YearlyKos was tarnished by the news that one more bit of our nation's Constitution had been pissed on?
Do you remember how the party leadership back then, Reid and Pelosi, had defended themselves? "It's only for six months," they said. "We made sure it sunset in six months!" "We'll come up with something better before then," they assured us.
And for the past six months we've waited, as Alberto "Abu Ghraib" Gonzales, the man who couldn't tell the truth if his life depended on it, spied on anybody he or his boss, the Emperor Chimp, wanted to. Political enemies. Peace churches. Members of this site.
Well, is anybody surprised by what happened tonight? Is anybody really surprised that tonight, six months later, with that egregious piece of legislation, that affront to all that is America about to expire, that the Democratic "leadership" again failed us?
Is anybody surprised that all Bush and his Rethug cohorts had to do was toss out a few nebulous threats of impending terrorism, and the "opposition party," the party that we worked so hard to put in the majority in that body, that supposed third branch of the government, rolled over again, and made the six month program permanent?"
