A white cloud pops up behind an old landfill that lay at the edge of town. Some in the town hold their head up high and notice the white cloud immediately, and do not see the landfill. Others look outside their windows and have a direct view of the landfill but because of its filth, do not bother do notice the white cloud. And then there are a discerning few who notice both the white cloud and the landfill. They are thankful for the cloud because they notice it’s a cirrhus cloud and with it will bode sunshine for the day. A tiny few of these discerning people, petition their town to close the landfill and have it used as a renewable energy source.
The white cloud in this story can be democracy, liberty, freedom, civil liberties, the constitution., our ideals. The landfill is the byproduct waste of years of republican rule. Those who see only the white cloud are the idealists who live in their ivory towers. The people who see landfills only are the myopic republican followers of Rush Limbaugh, Hannity and Red State. The discerning people are the daily bloggers of dailyKos. And the activists are the trusted users of Daily Kos.
The point is that hope and optimism combined with a savvy eye towards effecting practical change in the political landscape is the lifebloood of this movement. We canno let the amoral political morass of washington deviate us from the goal that most here share. We must fight the good fight, whethere we be the last ones standing doing so or not, because by living out our beliefs by being true to ourselves we are being true to our fellow manand advancing humanity.
Do not fret.
Jim Webb, or Amy Klobuchar are not who we fought this fight for. This cause is bigger than they. It is a cause for the future of our country and in effect, the world. So lets fight on. in the face of defeat.
