I have been really angry over the last few days because of what happened with the vote on the FISA bill. It angered me that this bill infringes on our Civil Liberties and it bails out Bush and his cronies. Including the Phone Companies. I have walked the middle ground with Senator Salazar, but he completely alienated me with this vote. I'm done defending him. I then tried to take a step back and ask myself what is important to me and why I am a Democrat.
I start off with Civil Liberties. I am mad as hell at those who voted for the FISA bill. Especially those on our side who did it. I don't believe in compromises where that is concerned. I wish the Democratic Party had more people like Russ Feingold in it. But I am still proud of Congressmen Ed Perlmutter and Mark Udall who both obviously have quite a bit at stake electorally for voting the right way on this bill.
Furthermore, I care about the Economy. I believe that good opportunities must be provided for all that are worthy of them. Though I will admit that "Worthy" is a subjective word, I definitely feel that this is not happening with our current economy.
I also believe Health Care should be a right. I couldn't tell you what the perfect system is, but I can tell you that I am offended by the system the way it is. I am even having some minor problems with it due to an injury I sustained 3 months ago.
The Environment is also extremely important. I care about our lands, especially those in this state. I don't want them being destroyed and our planet to become unlivable.
Last, but not least. Ending this war and having a thoughtful and intelligent Foreign Policy. I don't need to go into much more on this, since it is discussed ad nauseum everywhere.
So, now I ask, what is important to you?
