Exactly two weeks ago when Rove resigned I predicted on our show that Gonzales would resign in a couple of weeks because they didn't want it to seem like Rove left after Gonzales -- because then it would seem like it was all tied to the US attorneys investigations (and the larger Hatch Act violations).
This resignation was designed and agreed to weeks ago. It played out exactly as I predicted here (this is part of today's show and the Aug. 13th show):
If Gonzales had resigned first and then Rove after him, it would have looked like they were both running away from the investigations (which is exactly what they are doing). But if Rove resigned first, then they could play it like the Rove resignation had nothing to do with the investigations and he chose to leave on his own terms.
The press shouldn't let them get away with this. The resignations have nothing to do with spending more time with the family; they have everything to do with Congressional subpoenas and the US attorneys investigation.
Most importantly, the Democrats shouldn't let them get away with this. They should continue the investigations to see where it leads anyway. If crimes have been committed by Rove and Gonzales (and people higher than them), they should be fully investigated whether some of these people are still in government or not.
