In the realm of political thought there has never been a more powerful idea than America. For the first time in history a nation was formed expressly to protect the liberty of its citizens, who were conceived as equals, from the predations of tyrants. The founders knew tyranny first hand and were determined to design a system that would preclude it from ever taking hold in the United States of America.
"We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal. . . ."
Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776
It was an audacious act to break away from England to form a country of equals who would rule themselves rather than be ruled by a sovereign. The world had never seen anything like it. A country devoted to liberty and equality was a novelty, one that spoke to the hopes and dreams of humanity, one that said life could be more than suffering, struggle, and the debasement of the masses.
The founder’s of the United States of America took great pains to head off the prospect of creeping tyranny. Thomas Jefferson in particular exhibited remarkable wisdom on the subject. He knew that tyranny would remain a threat, that it would always be a skulking vicious mongrel nipping at the heels of the country. He warned us time and again.
Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.
~ Thomas Jefferson
He knew that human nature, or certain aspects of it such as greed and lust for power, would militate against the values of freedom, equality, and a guaranteed right to the unfettered pursuit of happiness. His answer was to keep the American revolutionary spirit alive.
"The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then. It is like a storm in the atmosphere."
Thomas Jefferson to Abigail Adams, 1787
We’ve come a long way since 1776, and even further since 2000. What was once a noble experiment has, as predicted, been perverted into a parody of itself by lesser beings. Greed and avarice have overcome the nobility in our national character. Corporations have been allowed to sink their tenterhooks into the beating heart of the nation reducing the citizenry to economic enslavement and robbing the people of their voice in the government. America, the hope of humanity, is now little more than a bad joke.
The United States is a nation of laws: badly written and randomly enforced.
~ Frank Zappa (1940 - 1993)
The USA has now been taken over by a ruthless gang of half-bright greed-besotted thugs in the thrall of Corporate America and the Military Industrial Complex who stand before the people of the world and tell outrageously shameless lies.
America has never been an empire. We may be the only great power in history that had the chance, and refused – preferring greatness to power and justice to glory.
~ George W. Bush (1946 – we can only hope ), speech, November 19, 1999
All the while they are picking our pockets and sending our children to kill and die in some bogus war – all to make filthy rich bastards filthier and richer.
"Who are these Swine? These flag-sucking half-wits who get fleeced and fooled by stupid little rich kids like George Bush? ..... They speak for all that is cruel and stupid and vicious in the American character.... I piss down the throats of these Nazis. And I am too old to worry about whether they like it or not. Fuck Them."
"But wow! This goofy child president we have on our hands now. He is demonstrably a fool and a failure, and this is only the summer of '03. The American nation is in the worst condition I can remember in my lifetime, and our prospects for the immediate future are even worse. . . The Bush family must be very proud of themselves today, but I am not. Big Darkness, soon come. Take my word for it."
"The utter collapse of this Profoundly criminal Bush conspiracy will come none too soon for people like me.... The massive plundering of the U.S. Treasury and all its resources has been almost on a scale that is criminally insane, and has literally destroyed the lives of millions of American people and American families. Exactly. You and me, sport— we are the ones who are going to suffer, and suffer massively. This is going to be just like the Book of Revelation said it was going to be— the end of the world as we knew it."
"These horrifying digital snapshots of the American dream in action on foreign soil are worse than anything even I could have expected. I have been in this business a long time and I have seen many staggering things, but this one is over the line. Now I am really ashamed to carry an American passport."
"America... just a nation of two hundred million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns and no qualms about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable."
~ Hunter S. Thompson
A fact that too often goes unmentioned is that millions upon millions of American hearts have been broken to witness the wanton trashing of every principle upon which this nation was founded. George W. Bush and his minions and puppet masters have shredded the Constitution and made a mockery of the American vision. They have sullied the USA’s good name, spit in the faces of our allies and stabbed everyone who loves this country in the back – and to their great shame, the Democrats have aided and abetted this monstrous crime against humanity. There is no longer an opposition party in America. The people have no recourse – no recourse but revolution that is.
What the people want is very simple - they want an America as good as its promise.
~ Barbara Jordan
I believe our generation is destined to either rescue the promise of America or witness its demise. If it is to be the former, and let’s hope that it is, let one thing be clear: doing what we’ve always done is no solution. Electoral politics are not going to save us. We need to give up on the notion that by continually choosing the lesser of two evils that we will somehow end up with something other than evil.
If we are to rescue this country we will have to reach back to its origins and revive the spirit of 1776. It’s high time for another American Revolution. I am not advocating violence. On the contrary, I believe our’s must be a non-violent revolution to succeed – but we must be prepared to face the violence that will surely be brought against us by the criminals we oppose. If they are going to imprison us, if they are going to beat us, if they are going to slaughter us in the streets I say it is time to make them do it. Fear buys us nothing but more of the same – and we’ve had all of that we can stand. It’s time to fight for the future of this country.
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
~ Thomas Jefferson
Those times are coming on us very quickly. We must all be ready for it.
If God is just, I tremble for my country.
~ Thomas Jefferson
Congress won’t stand up for us. The Democrats won’t stand up for us. The media won’t stand up for us. We have been left to our own devices. It’s time for us all to stand up for ourselves, our children and our grandchildren.
The revolution will not be televised – but it will be YouTubed.
Come to Washington on September 15th and join the American Revolution!
