Yes the plans are all in place. Yes Bush and Cheney are like Thelma and Louise holding hands in heroic ecstasy as they gun it towards the cliff. It all seems like a rock poised to roll down hill, obedient to the laws of physics. But the new physics is discovering laws that the old physics never dreamed of. The world is interconnected in ways our philosophers can only guess at. All is suspended in a chaotic solution of probability. But who is to say some new strange attractor won't emerge to stay the executioner's hand? Who's to say that life is incapable of delivering a surprise?
Maybe they will bomb Iran. It seems pretty likely. But these are exceptional times. Michigan loses to Appalachian State. The mighty Sharapova strikes out in the third round at Arthur Ashe. A billion conscious, sentient earthlings who truly don't want this thing to happen -- who's to say what power lies concealed in our collective heart as in the nucleus of an atom? Clapping hands for Tinkerbell. A butterfly of some pure-hearted prayer in Aden or Pennsylvania creating the chain-reaction hurricane that blows the war plans off the White House desk. Bush like Paul on the road to Damascus receiving the revelation that he is on the wrong track. Cheney slipping in the bathtub and forgetting what it was he had meant to do. Mutiny among the ranks. Sorcery. Equipment failure. Extraterrestrial intervention. Interdimensional subversion. A million possibilities might arise to mire this insane war plan in inertia before it gets off the ground.
Just sayin'. Hope is a better investment than despair. Hope turns over every stone looking for possible solutions while despair just freezes into apathy. No single person's action is likely to turn the tide. And collective action seems only to take place in the free-speech zone of the reality-based world that has no contact with that insulated Bushworld creating its own horrific reality. But if the human race as a whole just shows up with one spontaneous outcry, even if it is inaudible to the ordinary senses, mightn't that stun the perpetrator into dropping his weapon and waking from his trance? A critical mass of awakened consciousness experiencing itself as collective will. A telepathic field forestalling the inevitable. These are exceptional times.
