Hi all..
It's no secret that Gore has great support on this site. Many of us are hoping, praying, that Al Gore will throw his hat into the ring.
A serious question to consider though...what if he either:
- Announces that he is joining the race, but as an Independent
- Joins the race as a Democrat, a mainstreamer like Sen. Clinton or Sen. Obama wins the nomination, and he runs anyway as an Independent
Would you still vote for him? Campaign for him? I'm sure it would be a difficult question for many, especially here...
UPDATE:
I have said below I'd put an option in the poll for 'He'd never do it', because it seems there are a lot of you that feel that way. I can't go back and edit the poll (else I'd also correct the spelling of 'Independ*e*nt too) but I can't. Sorry.
Some are choosing to mock even the thought of it. I expected people here to be more openminded than that. Comparing a hypothetical future decision is not the same as dreaming up a hypothetical past, guys. I leave that to fiction writers -- and Republican spin doctors.
All I wanted was for people to think about it. It looks like there are still a number of people, a fair number, that would at least give it a fair thought.
Guess what? It probably won't happen. But, in these times, the troubles of the country are larger than either party. I've been wondering about this hypthetical, and wanted to know what others thought. I agree, it could go like Nader, or Lieberman (heaven forfend!).
But, there was a time when Whigs were a real party too. And people are talking lately about the complete demise of the Republican party as a whole. And we are generally displeased about what our supposed Democratic party leaders have been doing lately. In such a scenario, what would take its place? Something which is now a third party.
