First, I want to thank those of you who donated to the people who are hurting here in Melaque! You have been so generous and helped families that were just lost and were suffering.
First, we walked the town and saw those who were in the worst shape. Then we drove around and tried to decide who needed help the most. When the money came in, we would go to their door and put money in their hand and say that they had friends in the US. Everyone of them were stunned and tears were shed on both sides. Jose, one of the men has offered to work for me for the rest of his life! Another came to my house and washed my car. Funny, since my car was flooded and wouldn't start. My car is bright and shiny though
We gave money to the beach vendors since they are the most poor. Then we gave to a lady who had her children in the car as there was no place for them to go. We gave five hundred pesos to each of them. About fifty dollars. We drove by a hovel with two men shoveling mud and two little girs wearing only underpants watching. We stopped and gave to them and today we went back with over fifty dollars in groceries and a couple of cheap toys for the children. The lady was stunned and said"oh you are the ladies in the red car!" We may be notorious! A funny side note. We have a Melaque page on tomzap.com, and a few days ago some asshole said the people were too proud to accept help. I responded tonight and suggested that they donate what they would pay for a couple of six packs. I only have one response asking how to help. You can check it out. I post as OPOL,LOL!
We are having a lot of fun helping people and getting a lot of goosebumps when we do. I do have photos but Jean is leaving for the mountains tomorrow for a few days. Me driving her nuts maybe. The photos are in her computer and we need to get someone here to help us put them in an album. I will post the photos when she returns.
I took my goofy cat to the vet's yesterday to be spayed. When I came to pick her up this morning, the vet hid his face from me. I asked if she was dead, and he said she escaped. No surgery for her! I went home and she was sitting on my porch covered with mud. She goes back in tomorrow.
Again, I want you all to know what a great impression you have made on the people here. Thanks so much.
