Since it’s after midnight, I guess I'll kick off Blog for Gore Day with a Midnight Mystery.
Grab some stamps and follow me below the fold to learn what shady events shook this small suburban community to the core...
Many of you will remember that a few days ago I posted a request for people to send Al Gore a cereal box postcard. That story included a picture of an innocuous, rusty, old mailbox:
Hidden deep in the comments section was this possible foreshadowing:
...unless some Bush flunky at U.S. Mail catches on and gives instructions to dump the cards...
A day or two later, MakeChessNotWar posted America for Gore launches with $0.02 campaign, a brilliant mail campaign in which people are requested to send two pennies to Al Gore.
Never one to miss a good mail campaign, I whipped together this quick note:
and headed off to my trusty rusty mailbox....only IT WAS MISSING! 500 lbs of steel, concrete and rust simply vanished in mid air, replaced by some pine straw -- a rather shoddy attempt at covering up the crime.
Now I know this mailbox has been there for at least as long as I’ve lived in this area, so is it simply coincidental that the mailbox disappeared immediately after I mailed my postcard, or is this evidence of some sinister shady renegade post office organization "disappearing" mailboxes?
If it’s the latter, I’m inclined to think it’s a small group, so if everyone sends a postcard and sends $0.02, we’ll swamp them with volume and a few lucky messages will make it through to Mr. Gore.
Again, from the comments,
(not quite so farout to think that, is it?)
Indeed.
(PS: conspiracy theory only in jest, but the box is actually missing.)
