Constitution Day. Who knew it existed. Why? Was it invented by Hallmark? Do I have to send flowers?
Little did I know of this unknown American Holiday "to be celebrated on or around September 17th", called Constitution Day. The Constitution was adopted in it's original form on September 1th, 1787. I certainly have NOT celebrated it before. But there is always a first time!! Due to the fact that this fine document has been under assault for 6 years plus, I personally think it's time that we all pause to appreciate all that this document represents to this country. Why is it important that we celebrate such a document? As in the words of the Founding Fathers, we are "a country of laws, not of people". To survive as a citizen, we must understand the principles behind our laws, as well as the laws themselves.
Lets look at the opening words:
“ We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. ”

In other words, its all there. Its the owners manual to being an American.
If any of us ever wonder why we are where we are with the state of liberty in this country, we should look for no further evidence than the fact that few of us have ever taken the time to read the very document that outlines the principles of the country in which we are residents!!
So take today, CONSTITUTION DAY, read about it, and most importantly READ THE CONSTITUTION. And then ask yourself, if the America that you currently live, lives up to the standards that we "as a people" set up for ourselves.
