It's disheartening to see the lack of media focus on the situation in Burma. It front pages the BBC, but gets short shrift in the United States. (And, by the way, I use the name Burma, rather than the name adopted by the tyrants currently in power... Myanmar.)
I've been to Burma, hesitantly, a few times. I celebrated the water festival, Songkran, in the north of Burma. The people are kind, yet scared.
They are desperate for help. They are desperate for our help.
Yet, now, when a revolution is apparently at a tipping point, our media focuses on sensationalism, rather than properly educating Americans about the crisis in Burma. And our government offers bland sanctions against top leaders.
I don't know what the answer or solution is. But I know that it's vitally important that the eyes of the world, particularly the eyes of America, turn to Burma. With an intense gaze, China may feel pressure to compel Burma to avoid bloodshed. With our population informed, we can rally in small ways for the people of Burma.
So, tell your neighbors, talk about this situation... too few people know, or apparently care, about what's happening.
The madmen ruling Burma have subjected a people to torture, imprisonment, and more for years. Universities were CLOSED after the 80s rebellion was put down.
It's time for us to learn more, to focus our attention to this issue. It's time to talk to our friends and relatives, to bring the minds of our country to this situation. It's time to talk to our political representatives. It's time for revolution in Burma
