For those of you that have missed out on the small news coverage of the protests on Capitol Hill today because of the other news, let me update you: several hundred protestors today came to Capitol Hill with a group called
"No War, No Warming!" to protest and engage in "non-violent civil disobedience" against the Iraq War and to raise awareness of global warming. Link to the organization here: www.nowarnowarming.org
I just got off the phone with my 16-year-old brother, who told me that he was one of the twenty-six arrested for blocking the New Jersey and Independence Ave. Intersections during the morning rush hour (about forty others were arrested for similar and related things). Apparently he was one of two 'juveniles' arrested. All charges were dropped however, and they got plenty of pictures of the police being extremely rough on some of the other protestors. My Dad went down (from Baltimore) to DC to pick up my brother, and was "proud" of him. Its all good :)
I am writing this from Israel, where I am on Young Judeaea Year Course until June. Wish I was in DC though, does anyone have any information on anything happening down there?
Hopefully things like this will continue. It is astounding that there has been so little of this sort of thing (As Thomas Friedman said) in the past few years.
