What do I care about what religion baseball players are? Sports is that competitive domain of imported and domestic talent that comprise the most talented of Professional Athletics.
Yeah sure, we've all seen the kneeling College and High School games with kids kneeling and praying with coaching staff right before kick-off, it's the kinda stuff you associate with Notre dame or BYU.
However, I tried to get tickets yesterday to the World Series. I got to the credit card processing window, we were all jumping up and down at work, screaming and yelling and hugging each other.(we had 9 computers with mutiple browsers and windows open.) I picked out 4 tickets to the right field mezzanine for the 4th game and matched the word identification screen... then the credit card screen came up blank and timed out.
We were major league bummed. We spent 3 hours tryin to re-load the CC screen to no avail.
We've lost a lot of productivity over the last two days too.
Today I'll try Craig's list or maybe...just maybe ...I'll kneel down and call out to you-know-who for some extra help.
After all we know who he's rootin' for.
I've been hearing the rumors, so I did a search on Google and came up with this article from June 1, 2006 in USA Today and thought it might be interesting as a segway into the World Series this weekend.
"We're nervous, to be honest with you," Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd said.
"It's the first time we ever talked about these issues publicly. The last thing we want to do is offend anyone because of our beliefs." When people are nervous that they will offend you with their beliefs, it's usually because their beliefs are offensive.
Ouch!
As Rockies chairman and CEO Charlie Monfort said,
"We had to go to hell and back to know where the Holy Grail is. We went through a tough time and took a lot of arrows."...."I don't want to offend anyone, but I think character-wise we're stronger than anyone in baseball. Christians, and what they've endured, are some of the strongest people in baseball. I believe God sends signs, and we're seeing those."
Club president Keli McGregor,
"Who knows where we go from here? The ability to handle success will be a big part of the story, too. There will be distractions. There will be things that can change people. But we truly do have something going on here. And [God's] using us in a powerful way."
Manager Clint Hurdle who claims he became a Christian three years ago,
"We're not going to hide it. We're not going to deny it. This is who we are."
GM O'Dowd again,
"You look at things that have happened to us this year. You look at some of the moves we made and didn't make. You look at some of the games we're winning. Those aren't just a coincidence. God has definitely had a hand in this."
Hmmmmm. I'm really only a fair weather fan. I've only been to 5 Rockies games and that was years ago. I was only buying tickets because my atheist friends in Montana wanted to go to the game and were willing to give me their CC and pay for me and Hubby to go with them. (They don't have a television, just satellite radio. Once in a lifetime thing I guess.)
So I guess I'll watch on TeeVee and... pray... for the best. Actually we'll be practising some ritualized Voo-Doo because Jesus has let me down in the past and he could probably use some support from us pagans right about now.
Go Rockies! You are on a Crusade!
