If the Democrats can't bring themsleves to impeach Bush & Cheney, how will they, once a new Democratic AG is confirmed, avoid arresting and prosecuting them after January '09?
(Edited to change title.)
They have obviously committed crimes. Their illegal actions speak for themsleves. There is no real ambiguity here no matter how the rethuglicans try to muddy the waters. Dozens, if not hundreds, of staffers and agents of this administration have commited serious crimes at the behest of Bush & Cheney. They will need to be prosecuted also. How will the country avoid a political bloodbath in 2009?
We need to answer the problem of mass pardons NOW before someone "Discovers" the issue in 2009 and rushes a "Solution" that avoids dealing with the issue, and worse yet "locks in" corruption as the de facto state of our government.
And, of course, the spectre of mass pardons is also inconcievably damaging to the rule of law as well.
Can a nation of laws, not men, just pretend that the Bush admisnistration never happened? Can we go from Clinton to whomever, minus thousands of lives, trillions of dollars, the collapse of the dollar and our international reputation and just pretend everything is just ducky?
How will any nation ever trust us again if we don't arrest and prosecute these scumbags?
How will the dollar regain its value if everyone knows a president can just hand over trillions to his cronies whenever he chooses?
How can we be a world leader if we cannot bring ourselves to obey our own laws; if a president can just rule by decree?
The danger to America is not over on January 20, 2009. The damage George Bush has done to our once great nation's reputation, economy and laws will endure for decades if not generations. If law is broken without consequence, the very idea of law is meaningless.
What is to become of America?
