This is about the war plans. The End the War Plans.
Supporters of different Democratic candidates sometimes get into arguments over the details of these plans. But we might as well be flicking pepples around because it's a pretty meaningless conversation. The plans of all three candidates seem to shoot for the same end result. That's about where the conversation about the plans should end. Then we've got to talk about our candidates.
No plan drafted to end the war now is going to go through exactly as written in a year from now. It's as though we've forgotten that this is a war. There are two sides in a war and both sides take actions that influence the other.
Our military has an enemy in front of them in Iraq. They shouldn't but they do. That means things will happen that are not predictable and not completely under our control both between now and when a Democrat might take office and after any plan is set into place. We've never controlled Iraq and we're talking about a major movement of people while facing a still deadly enemy. It's not going to go down like the plan.
I think it's a real possibility that the people who attacked us wanted us in Iraq and in their eyes we're supposed to keep getting hurt there. It doesn't seem so unlikely that someone might try to keep us around.
What we need to do is look past the plans and think about who we want in that position to deal with those events as they unfold. The plan at this point is actually a pretty minor indicator of how successfully any new president will deal with such a dangerous situation. It's a statement of intent.
I'm looking for the thinker of the group on this issue. I want to see intelligence and fluid decision-making. Someone who could deal with a rapidly changing situation and have confidence in his/her ideas. Someone who works well with a lot of different types of people and is quickly trusted.
Because it's going to be way trickier than what we're talking about. The current plans probably won't be relevant in their details by the time the new president is sworn in, let alone once things start to move.
Are you comparing details of candidate war plans and actually picturing things happening in just that way? Or are you thinking more about the individual candidates and how they will react to unforseen and deadly circumstances?
