Where's our DKos leadership? I'm stepping up with this diary, and I'm hoping others will also, especially the frontpagers.
Over the weekend, I got hammered with emails from different peace groups asking me to contact my legislators about the Iraq funding bill that's coming up for a vote today. It seems the Democrats are going to give Bush what he wants for Iraq if they get some more domestic spending. What's wrong with these people? Will our Democrats once again fail to do the right thing? (Read the Washington Post article for details.)

Will they cave to Bush? If so, do they really think his corrupt administration will be nice to them? Do they think the American public will give them a pass and forgive them for letting us down again on Iraq funding and timelines?
But the question I'm posing now is why isn't this call to action being broadcast loudly at Daily Kos? Shouldn't we be in the leadership on these actions? I know there were posts about it on Saturday, but shouldn't those be re-stated in a prominent place on Daily Kos today?
The next outrage we were subjected to over the weekend was the news that several of our Democrats, including Speaker Pelosi, knew that our government planned to use torture in interrogations back in 2003, and did nothing to stop it. Scarecrow over at firedoglake gives us the rundown and a plan for what the Democrats should do in response. Perhaps when we call our legislators on the Iraq funding bill, we should also demand that they call for full investigations as Scarecrow suggests.
Granted, the Pelosi story is mostly unsourced, but emptywheel, in an excellent diary and discussion yesterday told us that these reporters are fairly reliable (especially for the Post).
What to do with all of this? That's why I wrote this diary. I'm requesting that the frontpagers, as well as regular diarists, use their platform to issue calls to action for these and other critical issues facing our country. Perhaps we could have a dedicated part of the frontpage for this type of alert??
I realize we are all busy with our own areas of interest, but if these action alerts could be prioritized on this site, we could be more effective in our lobbying efforts.
