Merry Christmas from snowy Colorado!
This morning we woke up to a white Christams of 6 inches and it's still coming down.
Even Goldie is enjoying her new horse tank heater that she got from the farm and ranch supply store for Christmas.
Snug as a bug in a tub.
Snow is a way of life in the Rocky Mountains. It fuels our multi-billion dollar skiing industry and winter sports tourism of hunting, fishing and snow mobiling as a winter paradise for the outdoorsy in all of us.
One of the most important aspects of snow in Colorado is the annual watershed to all the surrounding states and western regional rivers that flow from the headwaters of the Rocky Mountains.
The North and South Platte rivers flow into Wyoming and Nebraska to join the mighty Missouri.
The Arkansas flows east to Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
The Rio Grande flows south to New Mexico and Texas
The Colorado River provides water for millions of people in Utah, Arizona, Nevada and California.
And of course we are all very water conscious here in the state.
Almost everyone talks of the snow pack in the mountains and whether or not we will have resrictions in the the summer. So far, most of the state is way over average and March and April are our snowiest months!
It's not often we get a white Christmas or a promise of a 150% snow pack, but the rest of the western States are depending on Rocky Mountain Gold.
So let it snow!
