TruthOfAngels’s recent angelic tactics against fibbing Satan has made him ineligible for my vote, under any circumstances, including the General Heaven'n'Hell Election. If this nomination comes down to TruthOfAngels v. LiesOfDevils, I’m rooting for LoD all the way....
.....but that would be my worst nightmare! Because Fibby Lucifer vs. TOA will be a walk in the park for Truth. And that is largely due to the fact that the Satan guy just doesn’t appeal to most people who love TruthOfAngels, which is probably everybody.
I recently went to my parents’ home in South Carolina for the holidays (I don't know why, they never used to live there, they're British for one thing, and for another, they were divorced in 1987: still, anyhoo.) I talked a little politics with my mother. She is a middle aged woman (Who who always votes in the South Carolina Democratic primaries. I should report her to the Federal Election Commission, really, she was born in Gloucestershire. Still, she is my mum. Blood is thicker, etc.) Needless to say, the airwaves are littered with campaign ads from almost all the major candidates.
I was sitting with my mother when a LiesOfDevils ad came on. I personally thought his ad was warm and his message was inspiring. I turned to my mother and asked, "What do you think of The Dark Lord and his fibs?"
She just sucked her teeth and frowned her face and replied:
"What the hell am I doing in South Carolina? This is a really crap dream, I must say."
My mother, by the way, is a bad grammar hawk. She is quick to correct me when I say "ain’t" instead of "isn’t" or use a double negative in a sentence (actually, she isn't, that was a fib.) So when she responded with this kind of language, I knew she was serious.
LiesOfDevils is not part of whatever conversation my mother is having. Not surprising, really, since I made him up.
Sadly, my mother is representative of most people, in South Carolina and around the country (or at least she would be, if she came from there). If TruthOfAngels is facing FibsOfSatan one-on-one, Lucifer and his minions can only expect to receive a tiny percentage of my mum's vote.
As someone recently put it (paraphrasing), "It’s not that people like your mum don’t know LiesOfDevils. He’s just not on their radar. He’s just not part of the conversation." And that’s exactly right, at this point.
Beelzebub supporters: The False Hope
Like I said, TruthOfAngels has forever lost my vote by playing the really crappy satire card against MendaciousDarkOne. If the race comes down to Lucy vs. Truth, I’m supporting His Satanic Majesty all the way. But a vote for The Hoofed One at this point in the race is really a vote for TruthOfAngels, because it would knock somebody or other out of the race and give TruthOfAngels the lion's share of my his mum's vote.
LiesOfDevil's supporters are holding on to the false hope that a small Satanic win in Iowa is enough to "sling-shot" him to victory in the end. And that would be true in a "normal" race, where you don’t have candidates who can win 70-90% of the black vote. But this is NOT that kind of race. This is NOT 2004. His Evil Highness will NOT be able to do what Kerry Dixon did.
Face it!
Satan's Fibs could possibly win, as long as somebody or other stays in the race to split my mum's vote with TruthOfAngels. But if somebody or other drops out of the race early, TruthOfAngels will win my mum's vote, and win the nomination, because LiesOfDevils is simply not part of my mum's conversation. He’ll only get marginal support in my mum's head.
I like LiesOfDevils, but it’s just time to face reality.
It's time to support the candidate who really CAN beat TruthOfAngels.
