Let me start out this diary by declaring that this is my first diary and that I back Senator Obama for the Democratic nomination. I used to back John Edwards, whom I still think would make a great President but Senator Obama truly is a phenomenon and he mirrors a lot of the policies Edwards espouses. Let me also start out by declaring that any of the Democratic Presidential candidates would be much more acceptable than any of the Republicans running for President.
Well, good to get that out of the way......
I am like a lot of people on this site that cling to the belief that the presidency is ours to lose this year. We are cautiously optimistic, but everything tell us that it is going to be a democratic year. We will work hard and never let up, even if our candidiate is up 20 points on the eve of the election. That's why I am a little disheartened to read today a bevy of people reporting the inevitable coming of the "scorched earth" tactic that Senator Clinton will employ to try to take down Senator Obama on his foreign policy experience.
I have no problem with Senator Clinton distinguishing herself From Obama, but if she feels that the only way she can climb back into this race is to tear him down continually in the next month over his foreign policy experience (or lack there of) than this could be playing to the only strength that the republicans currently enjoy, Foreign policy (if you beleive the polls).
Politics is a bloodsport, I know, but there comes a time when you know that your best course of action is to withdrawal for the good of the party no matter how personal things have become. I know this time has not yet come for Senator Clinton and it may never come, but a bloody fight over foreign policy experience will help no one that's fighting for a Democratic President in 2008 other than the Republicans. I hope all of the Democratic candidates realize this, especially Senator Clinton before it's too late.
