Right now, with something like 13% of the vote counted, the results have Hillary Clinton at 40%, Obama at 36% and 17% for Edwards.
(Gravel, if anyone is curious, has 61 votes, which is 0%, compared to Hillary's 18,297 votes)
It's a little bizarre to be reading the comments in response to these preliminary results, with many people hyperventilating at the idea that Hillary is not getting blown out of that water.
I mean seriously.
Do you really want this race to be definitively decided after two (2) states? Wouldn't it be nice to have people in some other parts of the country being able to get a chance to make up their minds too?
Also, I mean really, we're talking about New Hampshire right now. Is this really a state that is representative of the USA? I understand that historically it's been a good predictor and has had some significance, blah blah blah.
I think the USA is a little different now than it once was, and to assume that a small northeastern state is going to decide for the rest of the country is a flawed idea. Do you really think that most people in the USA are right now thinking "oh wow, thank you New Hampshire for showing us your wisdom"?
I've become an Obamarama supporter in recent days, but I actually don't mind if Hillary hangs in there and gets a chance to make her case. Before being swayed to Obama, I'd been leaning toward Edwards. I think it's a good thing, that the candidates this year on the D side all seem impressive and competent. Why not play this out for a little bit longer, and give them each a chance to show what they have to offer? Is there really some advantage to deciding this contest today?
Ok. Back to checking the latest results. But can't you all just calm down a little bit?
