Here is a great article by a pakistani man in the Daily Time sin Pakistan. Clearly the excitement over the democratic race is palpable throughout the world.
As a Pakistani American, I did not appreciate Obama's comments about his willingness to go into Pakistan's sovereign territory with US troops. But despite that, i see someone with competence and character whenever I look at him. And i have my reservations about HRC.
And I believe in Obama.
Not to mention, He is a multicultural figure.
I think the following tidbit from the article shows how beautiful Obama's candadacy is:
"For me the nomination of Senator Barack Hussein Obama is the better thing that can happen. After all, Senator Obama has my last name as his middle name and his father was a Muslim from Kenya and his stepfather an Indonesian Muslim. Even though he himself is not a Muslim, if he does become the president of the US, things will get easier for my children and their children in the future. And the same will be true for anybody else with the name Hussein or Hussain."
Interestingl;y the author goes on to extoll the virtues of HRC and point out that he favors an CLinton over Obama.
"As far as Senator Clinton is concerned, I have a daughter and a niece, both accomplished young women and I hope that in time I will have granddaughters too. I would like them to grow up in a country where a woman president is an accepted reality and not still a dream. I am also sure that millions of black children would rather grow up in a country where a black man or for that matter a black woman becoming the president is as accepted as that of any other racial group.
The sad thing is that Democrats have to make a choice between these two extremely desirable alternatives. Unfortunately the bruising primary fight shaping up right now will weaken both of them making it more difficult for either one of them to get elected in the general election. As it is either of these two will have a tough time because of who they are and what they represent."
But that is not the point. the Point is that the democrats are awesome, that the whole world including the pakistanis are watching this election with emotions invested.
This is about the future of america about the direction we take this country.
We must do EVERYTHING possible to help elect our candidate.
Already, things that have happenned in this election , have been HISTORIC by any stretch of the imagination.
So whoever you support, remember that you are part of making history!
