With the biggest primary day ever just 4 days away, Barack Obama is gaining support daily. The key now is to reach the undecided, the waivering, the leaners, and those who usually never vote.
While high-priced tv ads may sway a few, many will simply fast forward through on their TIVOs. Many people (myself included) tire of the constant phone calls. And direct mailings are so 20th Century.
People are most likely to be swayed by close FRIENDS, FAMILY, CLASSMATES and COWORKERS. People will listen to the arguments of a friend, while they will turn off a tv ad despite its impressive "focus group" appeal.
I urge EVERY Barack Obama support to contact AT LEAST 20 PEOPLE in states that will vote on February 5. With hundreds of thousands of Kossacks, we can reach MILLIONS! Some advice on how to do it and what to say below the fold.
Reach out in a personal way. Call or meet the individual. E-mail is okay but make it a PERSONAL e-mail. In other words, don't send a group
e-mail to friends and family. You can draft a single e-mail, but revise it to relect each person's interests and concerns.
Make sure your arguments are specific to the person. A conservative may not want to hear that Obama was voted the Most Liberal Senator by the National Journal, while someone a bit more to the left may well appreciate it. BUT NEVER LIE OR MISLEAD IN ANY WAY! And, avoid vilifying Hillary Clinton.
My own argument goes something like this.
We face extremely tough challenges ahead. We need a president who has the capacity to SUCCESSFULLY implement a progressive agenda. We also need a president who has the JUDGMENT and the COURAGE to take sometimes tough positions because they are right.
Barack Obama has the capacity to bring Democrats, Independents, and even a few Republicans together in a coalition that will move us forward. Hillary Clinton, while electable, simply CANNOT bring many independents (and certainly few Republicans). Furthermore, Obama excites and inspires, bringing out many who rarely or never vote. He especially energizes the young.
Obama was RIGHT on Iraq from Day One, unlike CLinton, who still refuses to admit that she made a mistake in voting to authorize the War.
Finally, Barack Obama's unique background and career experiences make him the clear choice for president.
To learn more about those experiences and how they will help America, check out the following awesome Daily Kos diaries, written last December.
Obama: The only thing you need to know (Obama as Constitutional Law Professor)
Obama: The Only Thing You Need to Know, Part 2 (Obama as Law Professor)
Obama: The Only Thing You Need to Know, Part 3 (Obama as Project Vote Organizer)
Obama: The Only Thing You Need to Know, Part 4 (Obama as Community Organizer)
Obama: The Only Thing You Need to Know, Part 5 (Michelle Obama)
Obama: The Only Thing You Need to Know, Part 6 (Obama motivates people to take action)
Hopefully, these diaries will help you (and anyone you talk to) learn more abaout who Barack Obama is and why he would be an awesome president.
So enough writing for one morning. I have to start contacting my 20 people! And make sure you tell them to contact 20 people they know!
WE CAN WIN THIS THING!
