PLEASE RECOMMEND THIS DIARY SO WE CAN GET A BIG SAMPLE! Thanks!
Five times in 2007 I took this poll, with the exact same diary title and the same questions phrased exactly the same way.
When I ran the poll before, some folks criticized either the title as provocative or the questions as perhaps biased against Hillary Clinton. The poll was actually designed to attract the attention of people who don't particularly like Hillary Clinton but may soon be presented a choice of voting for a Republican or a third-party candidate, if she wins on Super Tuesday and goes on to become the nominee.
Now that my candidate of first choice, John Edwards, is out of the running, I thought tonight might be a good time to see if there has been any shift among Kossacks regarding this question.
NOTE: I'm sorry if you don't like the title or the way the questions are phrased. This is the fifth running of the poll, and for it to have any validity I have to ask the same questions each time.
UPDATE: Here are the results of the previous polls:
February 2007
39% I will hold my nose and vote for her
36% I will (happily or unhappily) vote for her and work to elect her
15% I will vote for someone els
7% I will not vote
August 2007
29% I will hold my nose and vote for her
40% I will (happily or unhappily) vote for her and work to elect her
23% I will vote for someone els
6% I will not vote
October 2007
32% I will hold my nose and vote for her
30% I will (happily or unhappily) vote for her and work to elect her
17% I will vote for someone els
9% I will not vote
November 2007
25% I will hold my nose and vote for her
31% I will (happily or unhappily) vote for her and work to elect her
27% I will vote for someone els
16% I will not vote
Note: The poll generated about 400 votes each time.
UPDATE II:
With about 400 votes - I think we'll have the most responses ever - the "I will vote for someone else" and "I will not vote contingent comes in at FORTY-FOUR percent, the largest in the one year I have conducted this poll.
You know what this means. When you look at the rec diary list, when you read the diaries that come out day after day in such numbers, you see that among a whole bunch of true Democrat Kossacks are a lot of people who simply aren't. I think it's a problem we need to work on as we head for November.
Full disclosure. Started out supporting JRE. I now support HRC. I will happily support BHO if he wins the nomination.
UPDATE 3 We're up to 560 votes now - a new record! This means that either more people than ever are online (I always try to run the poll on Saturday evening) or more are interested in answering the question posed in the title.
FORTY-NINE PERCENT of respondents say they will not vote, or will vote for someone other than Hillary if she is the nominee.
I think it's good evidence that we have a ways to go until we come together for November. I sure hope we will.
UPDATE IV: Make that FIFTY-THREE PERCENT, for a grand total so far of 343 Kossacks voting "no."
