That's what I heard several callers say on the local Air America station.
Polling data suggests otherwise. He's out-polling John McCain, a media darling. In a CNN poll a week ago, it was 52 to 44.
So, with the evidence to the contrary, what leads people to say that? I'm curious if in some cases it could be projection -- a defense mechanism in which someone attributes his or her own undesirable thoughts to someone else.
If I hear this, I'd like to be ready to respond. Here's my idea for a response. It uses humor, and isn't an attack on the speaker.
"You don't think America is ready for a black president after eight years of a horse's ass? I think America is ready for anyone that can clean up the mess the Republicans have led us into."
I'd like to hear other ideas.
