The state's largest for-profit health insurer is asking California physicians to look for conditions it can use to cancel their new patients' medical coverage.
Blue Cross of California is sending physicians copies of health insurance applications filled out by new patients, along with a letter advising them that the company has a right to drop members who fail to disclose "material medical history," including "pre-existing pregnancies."
Doctors balk at request for data
Now maybe it's just me, but how can politicians support companies that make a living by canceling and killing patients? I know money plays a major role, but imagine the leader that stood up and ended this system and replaced it with Universal healthcare. They would become a national hero. The older British citizens knew exactly when and who started NHS. Remember they did this a few years after the end of WWII. If the British could start a national healthcare system after almost being blown off of the map then what is taking us so long????
At least some of the doctors are starting to see the light(kinda)
"We're outraged that they are asking doctors to violate the sacred trust of patients to rat them out for medical information that patients would expect their doctors to handle with the utmost secrecy and confidentiality," said Dr. Richard Frankenstein, president of the California Medical Assn.
Let's start pushing Sen Obama and Sen Clinton to discuss healthcare more and more. Let's get them ready to defend these policies against the SCLM. As I commented a few days ago in the last NYCEVE diary. People have to push Universal Healthcare forward. When hundreds of thousands of people say they want change our politicians will be forced to make change.
