I grow weary of Congress passing "new" laws to avoid impeaching Bush for breaking the old ones. They just say, "oops! the old one didn't work! Let's write a new one!" Sometimes the new one just says, ahh, go ahead -- you don't need a warrant, and we don't don't need to remove that pesky warrant thing from the Bill of Rights. We'll just scribble over the top of it." Or like the "new" law prohibiting torture. What's next -- a law abolishing slavery? A law declaring the US an independent nation? Do I get to vote for George Washington? How much longer can they keep up this blather about how impeachment is worse than lawbreaking? Forever, it seems.
When it comes to answering mail on impeachment, Congressman Delahunt of Massachusetts says:
"SURE he's a liar, SURE he's a lawbreaker, SURE he abuses his office, SURE he appoints incompetent loyalists whose incompetence costs lives and wastes our money, SURE he uses the power of his office to retaliate against those who dare tell the truth, SURE he fired US attorneys and replaced them with those loyal to his own person rather than to the law, SURE he says torture is justifiable when he alone decides it is, SURE Guantanamo is illegal, SURE America has lost the respect of every nation on earth, SURE the war was based on lies and SURE countless of thousands of innocent people have been killed violently for it, SURE we’ve sacrificed nearly 4,000 soldiers to the lie, SURE he's turned Iraq into a hotbed of terrorism and violent criminality, SURE he held onto Rumsfeld year after year after year because Rumsfeld was loyal to him personally while he betrayed his role as Commander-in-Chief by consigning thousands of soldiers to die so he wouldn't have to embarrass his buddy Rummy, SURE his war in Afghanistan is falling apart, SURE he says his word is law, SURE he tells his friends and appointees they can snub Congressional subpoenas and that he and they only have to follow his laws, SURE he's bestowed presidential powers on his Vice-president, SURE he's filling up Iraq with private contractors who rip off our tax dollars to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars a pop, SURE he's protected these corrupt incompetent slugs from accountability, SURE the illegal invasion based on a lie is costing us tens of billions a month in debt that taxpayers will have to cough up some day, SURE we’re up to our eyeballs in debt to China, SURE he violates our freedom from warrantless search, SURE he scoffs at habeas corpus, SURE he scorns the right to a trial, SURE, he orders kidnappings of people he deems suspicious and SURE he sends them to other countries to be tortured, and SURE he uses signing statements to nullify laws that don't suit his personal ambitions, and SURE there's no money in the budget for anything but the war based on lies and a couple of pork-barrel projects, and SURE the economy's crashing, and SURE the military is stretched past the breaking point and SURE if we actually needed it for anything vital to defense SURE we'd be sunk, and SURE we are far less safe and secure on every front due to his illegal war of aggression, and SURE we’re going broke on top of it"
" – But impeachment is even worse."
Then he tells you how anguished he is and asks for your vote.
yeah, yeah, Delahunt great guy. I'm saying "SURE, he voted against the war back in '02, SURE, he deplores and condemns and says SURE, but my voting for him would waste my vote. Give me a fresh faced Republican; I think the parties need to take turns ignoring the Constitution and selling us folks down the river for a mess of pottage."
Same for Hinchey in NY. great guy, but what's his problem that he can say SURE this and SURE that, but no time to waste on this or that, I'm a busy busy man?
We're all busy folks. And we're all equal, some just seem busier making SURE that some are more equal than others.
