The past week, I have become increasingly alarmed by the Democratic Party.
My views are simple. First,as a supporter of HRC, I am also impressed immensely by Obama. I will be equally satisfied no matter which candidates wins the nomination.
But here is what I am afraid--the manner in which the DNC will apply its rules.
First--the absolute worst and most despicable and totally un-Democratic tool, the so-called "super delegates." Last night, a 21 year old kid was interviewed by network news. The show estimated that his one vote as a super delegate would be worth as much as more than 9000 people who voted in the primary.
This absolutely totally sucks--and the national party should be so embarrassed by this super delegate rule that they abolish it ASAP.
Second--It would be nice if the two candidates would sit and down and agree to the following: If Obama leads in elected delegates going into the convention; HRC should concede and ask her delegates to vote for OB. The opposite also holds true--if HRC is ahead in delegates going into the convention, Obama would agree to the same protocol.
One thing is totally understood by everyone: If the Super delegates takes away the delegate leader and gives the nomination to the other candidate, we will watch the modern Democratic Party as it implodes in a world wide stage, where riots would occur both inside and outside the convention. The demonstrations outside the conventions would make 1968 look like a Wiggles show.
Now, I know that HRC supporters may very well gut me for my thesis. As it currently stands, BO probably has a lead at the present time. He probably will maintain his delegate lead after the final primary.
Can anybody under any circumstances defend a system which would nullify BO delegate lead by virtue if "super delegates" of which includes some pimply faced 21 year old kid?
Second Major Point:
Under no circumstances can Fla or Michigan be counted if they affect the overall result of the winner. If HRC is leading going into the convention--and the two states would swing it to BO--they should not be seated.
Conversely, if BO is ahead and seating FA and Mich would swing the lead to HRC, the delegates should be seated.
CONCLUSION:
Over the last few days, I have focused less and less on the horse race and have been increasing concerned by wholly impossible rules which, if pushed to the brink--could bring the National Democratic to its knees.
I understand that my positions may appear to stack the deck in favor of BO.
That is not my intent.
All I am saying is that if shitty rule strips either candidate who goes to the convention, two major constituences will be alienated--African Americans and women.
I lived through the 1968 convention. That was the year from hell. MLK was murdered. RFK was murdered.
And the national Democratic Party destroyed itself in front of the entire world.
No--I may be a HRC supporter.
But I am an American first.
A Democratic second.
And no one person should have rules applied in such a manner that the Democratic Party loses a part of its soul to satisfy a single candidate--no matter who that candidates is.
